Trump Backs Roger Clemens’ Hall of Fame Candidacy

The Hall of Fame candidacy of former MLB pitcher Roger Clemens has gained support from President Trump.

In a recent post, Trump shared, “I played golf yesterday with Roger Clemens and his son Casey. Roger is one of the greatest pitchers ever, winning 354 games and multiple Cy Young Awards. People might say he used performance-enhancing drugs, but nothing has been proven. He has never failed a drug test, and he has consistently denied these accusations. He was a fantastic player long before the rumors started.”

Trump expressed concern about Clemens facing a fate similar to that of Pete Rose, whose Hall of Fame candidacy was revived posthumously after significant achievements.

“This is similar to Pete Rose, who had over 4,000 hits. I didn’t agree to his Hall of Fame induction until I talked to the Commissioner, who assured me it would eventually happen. But when Pete passed away, things changed. I don’t want that to happen to Roger. He has 354 wins, and he and his family shouldn’t be subjected to this nonsense!”

Clemens boasts an impressive 354 MLB wins and ranks second with 4,672 strikeouts.

However, his Hall of Fame achievements have often been overshadowed by allegations stemming from a lengthy investigation into steroid use and human growth hormone (HGH) detailed in the Mitchell Report.

In 2008, Clemens testified before Congress in an attempt to clear his name, but the outcome confused public perception and led to legal challenges against him. He was acquitted of all charges in 2012.

Although Clemens has never been convicted of steroid use, Jeff Nowitzky, a former investigator involved in the BALCO case and the Mitchell Report, has publicly asserted that there’s strong evidence suggesting Clemens did use steroids. “There was DNA evidence of anabolic steroids in the needle that was allegedly used for injections,” he stated.

Clemens became eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2013, but he never received more than 65% of the vote in his ten years on the ballot.
