Trump Calls for Execution After Charlotte Murder

On Wednesday, President Trump expressed that the individual accused of murdering a Ukrainian woman on a train in Charlotte, North Carolina, should face execution following a speedy trial. This remark came just a day after the Justice Department announced it would file federal charges related to the case.

“The animal that killed a beautiful young Ukrainian woman who came to America in search of peace and security was given a ‘squish’ (no doubt!) trial and only given the death penalty. There’s no other option!!!” Trump stated early Wednesday.

The individual charged in the Charlotte incident is 34-year-old DeCarlos Brown, who is facing first-degree murder charges in North Carolina. Additionally, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina has charged him with engaging in deadly behavior on the mass transit system. If found guilty, he could potentially receive the death penalty.

On his first day in office in January, Trump reinstated the federal death penalty through an executive order and reversed a previous order from the Biden administration that had paused its enforcement. During the last six months of Trump’s first term, 13 death row inmates were executed.

Brown is accused of attacking Irina Zalzka on a Charlotte Light Rail train on the evening of August 22nd. Zalzka had fled Ukraine with her family in 2022 due to the ongoing conflict with Russia.

A disturbing video of the incident shows Zalzka seated next to Brown on the train. It captures him standing up and unfolding a knife before launching the attack on the unsuspecting victim.

Trump condemned the gruesome stabbing after the shocking video was released over the weekend. He referred to Brown as a “crazy man” and labeled the attack as a sign of “evil people.” He expressed frustration, stating that “we have to be able to handle it.”

The issue of violent crimes on public transportation is garnering attention, with a focus on incidents in places like New York City’s subway system.

Transport Secretary Sean Duffy mentioned on Monday that the brutal killings highlight a growing problem of “anti-violence and homelessness” within the nation’s public transit systems. He remarked, “The problem is a lot of people. Unlike the rich liberals, they can’t ride Ubers; they don’t have vehicles, they need to take public transport, and public transport is becoming a national epidemic of violence and homelessness,” during an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity.
