US to Halt Bombing Campaign Against Houthi Rebels
On Tuesday, President Donald Trump declared that the United States will cease its bombing operations targeting Yemen’s Houthi rebels. He noted that the Houthi group has “suborded” and emphasized that the campaign would end soon, especially after the Houthis announced they would stop attacking ships in the Gulf of Aden and other areas.
This statement came during a joint press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Kearney. Since 2023, Houthi rebels have been actively targeting commercial and US naval vessels, which has resulted in billions of dollars in economic losses due to disruptions in global shipping linked to the Suez Canal in the Red Sea.
“This has always been a matter of freedom of navigation,” stated Secretary of State Marco Rubio during the meeting. “The goal is to stop these attacks, and if they cease, then we can halt our operations.”
The Department of Defense and the State Department have not yet responded to inquiries from media outlets regarding this development.
