Trump Endorses Abbott and Patrick for Texas Re-election
Former President Donald Trump has thrown his support behind Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick as they embark on their re-election campaigns.
In a recent endorsement, Trump highlighted his alliance with the two officials, emphasizing their shared policies on issues such as border security, economic development, and conservative governance. This backing is significant for Abbott and Patrick as they aim to retain their influential positions within the Texas Republican Party.
“Greg Abbott is a strong and well-respected governor of the state of Texas that I love, winning big three times, including with 6.4 million votes in 2024 (the highest number ever cast, the most ever!). Thanks to Greg’s bold and effective leadership, the great people of Texas will have the opportunity to pass new, fair and prolific legislation and elect five new MAGA Republicans in the 2026 midterm elections. This is a huge victory for the Lone Star State and the Republican Party nationwide! As Governor, Greg will fight tirelessly to defend Texas values, grow our economy, reduce taxes and regulations, and ensure security,” Trump stated on Truth Social.
Trump’s endorsement extends to Patrick, who is recognized as a significant figure in Texas governance. Before entering politics, Patrick had a successful career in media, even playing a role in bringing Rush Limbaugh to Houston’s airwaves in 1988, a move that altered political broadcasting. Patrick’s reputation as a leading conservative voice in Texas adds weight to Trump’s public endorsement.
Known for prioritizing his Christian beliefs, Patrick has also pushed notable social legislation over the years, including the Heartbeat Act and recent efforts to reintroduce prayer and the Ten Commandments in public schools.
“I am proud to once again support the re-election of Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick. As the Texas State Chair for the 2016, 2020, and 2024 presidential campaigns, Dan has been a great friend to our movement and has helped us win big in the primary and general elections. He will never let you down!” Trump added in another post.
Trump’s influence in Texas politics is well-documented, with his ability to energize the Republican base often affecting election outcomes across the state. His endorsements are sought after, and this latest support serves to reinforce the bond between him and Texas leadership.
Following Trump’s endorsement announcement, both Abbott and Patrick expressed their appreciation and acknowledged the significance of his backing for their re-election efforts, underlining the ongoing relationship between them and the former president.
“We thank President Trump for his support and strong stance on Texas,” Abbott tweeted.
“Thank you, President Trump, for your support and your strong partnership with the state of Texas,” Patrick conveyed.
Trump further shared Patrick’s response on his media channels, highlighting the favorable approval ratings for Trump among Texas Republicans and emphasizing the influence he holds over voters.
“Your overall approval rating for the Republican Party in Texas is 89%. Among those who identify as conservative, the figure is 97%,” Patrick noted in his message.
