Trump Comments on Ilhan Omar Amid Citizenship Investigation

President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that Representative Ilhan Omar could potentially face jail time, along with deportation, calling her “a disgrace to our country” as investigations into her citizenship continue.

These remarks were made during an announcement related to his fraud incentive program in the Oval Office, in response to a question from FOX Business correspondent Edward Lawrence about Omar’s eligibility based on her age.

“Well, she could be. She could also go to jail,” Trump responded. “You know, they keep talking about deportation. No, she could go to jail.”

The president didn’t cite any specific criminal charges or offer new evidence against Omar during this discussion.

“This is just my opinion,” he added, before labeling the congresswoman as “a very dishonest person” who “hates our country.”

Following these comments, border czar Tom Homan indicated that Omar could potentially lose her citizenship if immigration fraud is substantiated. On October 12, federal agents reportedly searched her home in Washington, D.C., confiscating her cellphone and other items.

The ongoing investigation apparently revolves around allegations that Omar or her father misrepresented her birth date on immigration documents. The central dispute concerns whether she was a minor when her father became a U.S. citizen in 2000, allowing her to qualify for citizenship through him, or if she was already 18 and thus needed to apply independently.

Omar has denied any wrongdoing. She, along with other Democrats like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, has condemned the investigation as a political attack against a prominent critic of Trump as the midterm elections approach.

During an interview on “The Big Weekend Show,” Homan indicated that the decision would depend on the evidence presented. He remarked, “Of course, if you lie during the naturalization process, there is a process to denaturalize somebody. We’ve done it before,” stressing that if the evidence supports it, such action could occur.

Homan also confirmed that Omar would be held to the same standards as any individual, though he refrained from discussing specific findings from investigators.

“I’m not going to get ahead of the bureau or HSI, but I’ve been told they have a strong case, and we’ll let the evidence lead where it leads,” he noted.

During his comments, Trump further criticized Omar for her critiques of the U.S., questioning why she wants to instruct Americans on governance, especially after her experience coming from Somalia.

“Then she comes over here, and she says that she wants to tell us how to run America,” Trump expressed. “She wants to tell us how to run the United States of America.”

He also scrutinized her claims regarding constitutional rights and referred to her election to Congress as “amazing.”

“She’s a disgrace to our country,” Trump concluded, while also expressing a desire for her to receive fair treatment throughout the investigation.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Omar’s office for a response.
