Representative Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) claimed on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” on Friday that Republican officials and supporters of President Donald Trump are experiencing anxiety regarding tariffs.
“It seems many are feeling anxious, and this is not what we signed up for. I’ve heard from Trump supporters today expressing that they didn’t agree to higher prices, increased taxes,” Gottheimer mentioned.
He added, “The manner in which the president manages everything daily has a direct impact on their finances. As they observe the costs of items they purchase, they consider car prices and the state of employment, leading to panic and eventual uncertainty.”
“Nebraska Republican Rep. Don Bacon is set to present the legislation in the House, which seeks to reinforce Congressional authority over tariffs,” Cooper informed CNN.
Gottheimer stated, “I conversed with Don today about this issue because the president asserts he operates with authority. That’s why he is imposing these tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and 60 other nations. Canada will begin to monitor this closely.”
He concluded: “If individuals encounter increased expenses and their 401ks and retirement funds diminish, they will likely panic, leading to more concerns among Republicans in the upcoming days,” he finalized.
