Shortly after former President Donald Trump escaped an assassination attempt on Saturday, NBC News national security reporter Frank Figliuzzi expressed concern that Trump supporters might seek revenge for the assassination attempt on the former president.
Figliuzzi, who has routinely called the right wing a threat to public safety, said that could come to fruition next week when pro-Trump protesters face off against anti-Trump protesters at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
“Are you scared or do police consider the possibility that something like this could inspire other people who may have similar thoughts?” asked presenter Lester Holt.
Figliuzzi responded: “Yeah, you’re right. We’ve seen copycat cases here, sadly, over the last few years, where people storm FBI buildings, and it doesn’t end well for them, like we had in Cincinnati, Ohio, and in Provo, Utah, where the guy tried to brandish a weapon at FBI agents during an arrest.”
“Things like this just breed more violence and more retaliation,” he continued. “So if we were to have areas in Milwaukee where supposedly anti-Trump people would protest, can you imagine people thinking in their heads that the solution for what happened today is to exact revenge on people who are supposedly protesting Trump? This poses quite a challenge going into next week.”
