Trump Supporters Push Back After President-Elect Appoints Adviser Who Wants H-1B Expansion: ‘Tech Wants Indentured Servants’

The selection of artificial intelligence (AI) policy advisors for the incoming Trump administration has sparked widespread online debate over the H-1B visa program, with conservatives calling the visa program an “abuse.” Critics say it is designed to lower wages for white-collar Americans. .

“Sriram Krishnan will serve as senior policy advisor for artificial intelligence in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy,” President-elect Donald Trump wrote in Truth Social this week.

Working closely with David Sachs, Sriram will help shape and coordinate AI policy across the government, with a focus on ensuring America's continued leadership in AI. This includes working with the President's Science and Technology Advisory Council. Sriram began his career at Microsoft as a founding member of Windows Azure. [Emphasis added]

Mr. Krishnan's appointment sparked widespread online debate over the H-1B visa program and employment-based green cards.

For years, Breitbart News has documented the mistreatment of American white-collar professionals as a result of the H-1B visa program. There are approximately 650,000 H-1B visas. foreign country American workers all the time. As Breitbart News highlights, Americans are often fired in the process and forced to train foreign replacements.

One such major initiative that Mr. Krishnan supports is the giveaway of green cards, primarily to Indian citizens, which would remove national caps on employment-based green cards.

As a result, tech companies will reap huge rewards by importing mostly Indians on H-1B visas to fill white-collar jobs for Americans. Efforts to eliminate the national cap have failed repeatedly in Congress.

Last month, in response to billionaire Elon Musk's X post about the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Krishnan said: answered “Removing country caps on green cards and unlocking skilled immigration would all be huge.”

In a clip from Krishnan's podcast, he laughs as a guest suggests that Indians should just “marry an American citizen and make it happen” to secure a green card. .

Vivek Ramaswamy echoes this argument, saying that the reason American companies prefer foreign visa workers over college-educated Americans is because “American culture has for far too long worshiped mediocrity over excellence…” he suggested.

Ramaswami in March appeared On Krishnan's podcast, he said legal immigration should focus on closing the “labor gap” and “skills gap.”

“The sole purpose of U.S. immigration policy should be to advance the interests of U.S. citizens already here…What kind of immigration policy makes sense in that context? ” Ramaswamy said.

wonderful. Now it's easier to implement — Where are the labor shortages? Where are the skills gaps? Where are the talent that can increase U.S. productivity? People with a civic love for this country, the skills, the work ethic, and the money and investment to make it happen? I think this will show you a more reasonable path. [Emphasis added]

Conservatives and other opponents have been fighting back online over the issue for several days.

“The H-1B visa program is beloved by tech companies because it helps keep paychecks in check for super-high-paying technical jobs, and foreign workers on these visas often join unions to demand better working conditions. They are much less likely to form or campaign for a movement,” journalist Li Fan posted. “Both sides can exploit the program.”

Mike Cernovich and colleagues used online databases to debunk claims that the H-1B visa program brings only the “best and brightest” geniuses to the United States for employment.

As part of an online discussion, many X users are reposting a Breitbart News interview with Vice President-elect J.D. Vance when he was running for a vacant U.S. Senate seat from Ohio in 2022. .

In an interview, Mr. Vance said that to prevent companies from enacting outsourcing and offshoring programs where Americans are fired, forced to train foreign replacements, and whose jobs are ultimately sent to other countries, Congress has made it clear that overhauling the H-1B visa program should be a priority. It's like India.

“Generally speaking, much of the H-1B abuse we see is for the benefit of those who employ health care workers. [foreign visa] Workers can lower the wages of Americans, but will it benefit the 700 Ohioans who lost their jobs? Absolutely not,” Vance told Breitbart News at the time.

“This is one of those issues where we need public policy to actually solve this problem, because the government is using a visa system that is designed to make sure that American companies have the workers they need. It's not about lowering the wages of American workers in this country,'' Vance said. “Unfortunately, that's exactly what the H-1B visa is currently being used for.”
