Trump’s Views on Immigration and H-1B Visas

When it comes to immigration, President Trump has made headlines over the years, whether it’s been about building a wall or discussing mass deportations. In a recent Fox News interview, he expressed that his stance on H-1B visas doesn’t necessarily align with his broader illegal immigration policies.

During the interview, host Laura Ingraham asked, “So the H-1B visa issue isn’t a big priority for your administration? Because if you want to raise wages for American workers, you can’t flood this country with tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of workers.” Trump replied, “We also need to attract talent.”

Ingraham countered with, “Well, we have a lot of talent,” leading Trump to assert, “No, we don’t.”

Trump elaborated further, remarking, “You can’t just take people off the unemployment line and say, ‘We’re going to put you in a factory. We’re going to make missiles.’ … It doesn’t work that way.” This perspective sparked commentary from hosts on Blaze TV, noting that Trump has often been less than sympathetic on this matter.

Co-host Romes referred to a prior discussion on the “All In Podcast,” where Trump suggested that students graduating from prestigious schools like Harvard or MIT should receive automatic green cards. Trump stated, “What I want to do and what I’m going to do is graduate from college. Anyone who graduates from college or gets a Ph.D. should be able to stay in this country.” He also included junior colleges in this sentiment.

Romes shared his belief that Trump might be yielding to the demands of big technology firms that rely on H-1B visas to sustain their operations. While he acknowledged this might be accurate, he expressed dissatisfaction with Trump’s support for these practices. “It’s not the responsibility of Americans or the president to permit abusive H-1B practices to persist,” Romes said.

Yet, he also mentioned that some criticisms of Trump’s comments on H-1B visas might be unfair. “This is a statement on a news show and doesn’t necessarily represent his actual policy stance,” Romes noted.

He expressed surprise that many still fail to see that Trump’s public remarks don’t always reflect his policy actions.
