Trump Backs Keegan Bradley as Ryder Cup Captain
Former President Donald Trump expressed his support for Keegan Bradley as the captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup team during a post on his social media platform. He also mentioned plans to attend one of the tournament days.
“Keegan Bradley should definitely be on the American Ryder Cup team – as captain!!!” Trump said. He praised Bradley as a “great guy,” adding that the addition makes for an exciting Ryder Cup. Furthermore, he expressed eagerness to be present at the tournament.
While Bradley has been confirmed as captain, there’s uncertainty over whether he will also compete in the tournament itself. It’s notable that since Arnold Palmer’s time in 1963, no Ryder Cup captain has participated as a player.
Currently, Bradley ranks 13th in the world and recently secured his second Travelers Championship in June. At the Tour Championships, he indicated that the decision ahead would be significant, hinting at potential backlash either way. “I’ll make the best decision for our team. It’s going to be controversial, and I’m prepared for that,” he stated. “I know it’s a crucial moment in my career.”
On another note, PGA Tour golfer Ben Griffin mentioned facing challenges, saying he had “overdosed” on creatine during a difficult start in the BMW Championship Final Round.
Bradley is set to announce six captain picks on Tuesday but has kept his options close to his chest, saying this selection process spans two years and isn’t solely based on the latest tournament results.
Since his appointment as captain in July 2024, he’s contemplated playing if he qualifies but emphasized that this contemplation started before his recent victories. “Honestly, I believe I’m still among the best players globally,” he noted. “I thought my chances of completely falling off the radar were slim all along, and we’ve been getting ready for this.”
So far, six American players have already secured their spots: Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, JJ Spaun, Russell Henley, Harris English, and Bryson Dechambeau.
