Former President Donald Trump has officially backed Vivek Ramaswamy in the race for Ohio’s governorship.
On his Truth Social platform, Trump stated on Friday: “Vivek Ramaswamy is running for Governor of my favorite state of Ohio and has won three times in 2016, 2020 and 2024!”
Ramaswamy, a 40-year-old from Cincinnati, declared his intention to run for governor earlier this year. He aims to succeed current Governor Mike DeWine, who is term-limited after serving two terms.
Trump praised Ramaswamy, saying, “I know Vivek well, I raced against him, and he’s a special person. He’s young, strong, and smart! Vivek is a very good man and truly loves our country.” He expressed confidence that Ramaswamy would work hard to boost the economy, lower taxes, promote American-made goods, safeguard energy resources, and maintain security at the borders. He also emphasized the importance of law and order and the protection of the Second Amendment.
This endorsement highlights Trump’s continued sway over the Republican Party, particularly in pivotal states like Ohio.
Trump further declared, “Vivek Ramaswamy will be a great Governor of Ohio and I have his full and complete support. He will never let you down!”
Ramaswamy holds a biology degree from Harvard and a law degree from Yale. He previously ran as the Republican candidate in the 2024 presidential race, entering in February 2023 and withdrawing in January 2024 to endorse Trump.
Additionally, he had a brief tenure as co-leader of the Department of Government Efficiency.
Ohio has leaned more conservative in recent elections, backing Trump and recently implementing a congressional map that slightly favors Republican candidates.
