John Carney, economics editor at Breitbart News, said on Fox Business Network's “Kudlow” show Thursday that former President Donald Trump's speech to the Economic Club of New York laid out how to address the housing affordability crisis.
“President Trump will speak today at the Economic Club of New York about the affordability crisis,” host Larry Kudlow said.
He continued, “John Carney, you're my expert on the financial situation. I mean, I think he lobbied pretty hard today, but I want to ask you, did he follow through?”
“He's done that. He's addressed a big problem in America, which is housing affordability, which is one of the things that, in every poll, is really hurting people. And he said he's going to do permitting reform to open up buildable land and make energy affordable, which is something that's absolutely necessary. When you ask people what bothers them most about the housing affordability crisis under a Biden-Harris administration, those are the two answers that come up: housing and energy,” Carney said.
“Yes, he did. He mentioned opening up federal lands for housing. It's a shame enough that we're not opening them up for oil and gas. I understand that. But he also mentioned housing. I think that's a new issue,” Kudlow said.
“This is a new issue,” Carney said. “The other thing he mentioned is there are a lot of regulations right now that get in the way of building homes, especially environmental regulations. When you talk to builders, they say when they try to get permits, they get in the way of regulatory permits to build homes. A lot of those are federal regulations, so they can be addressed at the presidential level, at the federal level.”
