WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday, aimed at protecting and glorifying the country's capital.
Trump's Order Establish The DC Safe and Beautiful Task Force is directed to carry out many different safety actions, from enforcing the law to help recruit officers for the city's police department.
The task force is ordered to surge police officers in public areas and “strictly enforce the “quality of life” law in public sectors such as drug use, unauthorized demonstrations, vandalism and public addiction,” according to a White House fact sheet.
Orders will also be sent to the task force:“We will maximize immigration enforcement to arrest and deport dangerous illegal aliens, including monitoring cooperation with D.C.'' the document added.
Additionally, the task force was established to help recruit and maintain police officers, with DC Forensic Crime Laboratory Certification, and “enhance capabilities.”
“D.C. Crime Labs remain partially uncertified and creates a bottleneck for investigation. Federal authorities will support capabilities, forensic work can resume and regain accreditation,” the White House said in a statement.
In a statement, the White House said the police department needs at least 4,000 officers, but now there are fewer than 3,500 in the military.
The task force is also ordered to strengthen pre-trial detention policies and work to avoid fares in the city's transport system. Furthermore, the task force hasAccording to the fact sheet, it speeds up hidden carry licenses for law-abiding citizens.
Trump's orders also establish programs to nurture the city. The initiative includes restoration and beautification of federal buildings, monuments, statues, memorials, parks and roads, removing graffiti from commonly visited areas, and ensuring the cleanliness of public spaces and parks.”
Additionally, the National Park Service has been instructed to remove the graffiti and clear out the homeless encampment on federal lands in the city.
