Trump takes swing at ‘overrated’ Bill Maher: ‘His show is dead’

Former President Donald Trump slammed Bill Maher and his late-night show on Saturday, saying “he’s overrated” and that his show is dead.

“Bill Maher, the overrated ‘star’ of a ratings-challenged show whose fake, loud, obnoxious laughter erupts from the set every few seconds, even when he’s not saying anything funny (which is most of the time), is suffering from a terminal case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (also known as TDS),” Trump said. Said in a Truth Social post on Saturday morning.

Trump’s comments came hours after former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (Democrat) and former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Illinois) appeared on “Real Time” and joined Maher in warning against Trump’s reelection and discussing the allegations against the former president.

Cuomo and Maher discussed the idea that New York’s hush-money lawsuit against the former president should not have been filed because it would have only politicized the justice system and helped the Trump campaign, but Maher argued that Trump’s election interference lawsuit should have been prioritized instead.

“If all they hear is that he tried to overthrow the United States government — that’s the main thing! He tried to overthrow the United States government! And we’ll never hear about it,” Maher said Friday night.

“And January 6th is a good day for you too,” Cuomo said, pointing at Kinzinger.

During his final term as a congressman, Kinzinger served on the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Since the January 6, 2021, incident, he has distanced himself from the former president and the Republican Party.

The next morning, Trump warned Republicans to stay away from Maher and his show.

“Republicans need to stop using him as a benchmark. His show is dead!” Trump wrote.

Maher has faced backlash from both parties in recent months over comments he made ahead of the 2024 election.

“The left has changed,” he told CNN’s Fareed Zakaria in May, listing some of the issues he has with the movement’s views on gender, race, free speech, communism, border control and police abolition.

“No, I’m not getting old, you’re just getting stupid,” he said at the time.

Maher said earlier this month that President Biden “will definitely lose” the upcoming presidential election, predicting that President Trump will have enough support among the American people in November.

Amid continued criticism of both parties, Maher vowed in March to do everything in his power to stop Trump from winning the election.
