Trump Attends Club World Cup at MetLife Stadium

Former President Donald Trump was present at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday, where Chelsea triumphed over Paris Saint-Germain in the FIFA Club World Cup match. Chelsea secured a strong win with a score of 3-0.

After the final whistle, Trump witnessed a brawl that erupted following the victory. Once the situation calmed down, he took the opportunity to hand out awards and medals to the players and the officiating team.

During a conversation with Emily Austin from Dazen, Trump expressed his admiration for FIFA President Gianni Infantino. He noted how significant it was to host the Club World Cup in the U.S. just a year ahead of the World Cup being held in North America.

“That’s a big deal,” Trump remarked, while referring to Gianni as a friend who has done remarkable work in the sport, which he jokingly referred to as soccer. He mused about the possibility of issuing an executive order to officially declare it “soccer” in the U.S.—adding, “I think we can do that.”

When asked about the best footballer of all time, Trump reminisced about his youth, recalling Pele’s impact when he played for the New York Cosmos. “When I was a young man, they brought a player named Pele… This place was packed,” he said, reflecting on the memories of that time. “I’m a young man, and to see Pele was great—it might be considered old-fashioned now.”

Pele is widely recognized as one of the greatest footballers, having scored 569 goals in 583 appearances for club and country. Trump also mentioned that he joined the Cosmos in 1975 and played 64 games until 1977, making a memorable mark in the North American league.
