President-elect Donald Trump spoke on speakerphone Tuesday to Greenlanders about the island's “security” needs amid plans to make it a U.S. territory.
“I just want to say this is a very special place. We need our own security, but we also very much need the world's security,” the president-elect said. I said on the phone Son Donald Trump Jr. on a trip to an arctic island.
At a press conference on Tuesday, President Trump said he would not rule out using “military force” to make Greenland a US territory.
Trump, 78, said in a phone call that the ship was “not the right ship” to sail around Greenland, likely hinting at China's interest in the Arctic region, adding that Greenland is “strategically located. “I am doing so,” he said.
“Yes!” one Greenlander shouted in response to President Trump's remarks about national security.
Greenland is an autonomous island that is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, and the prime ministers of both countries emphasized that the island is not for sale.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen reiterated during Don Jr.'s visit that the island was not on the market, but said the United States “should play a bigger role in the region, not Russia, for example.” Ta.
Despite Greenland and Denmark's firm statements, that hasn't stopped former and future presidents from insisting that the United States needs to acquire Greenland.
“Don Jr. and my Congressman have landed in Greenland,” the president-elect wrote on Truth Social when his son landed on the island.
“The receptionist response was amazing. They and the free world need safety, security, strength and peace. This is a deal that has to happen. MAGA. Let's make Greenland great again! ”

“If the people of Greenland want to be part of America, we hope so, and we welcome them!” said Trump confidant Elon Musk, who chairs the Department of Government Efficiency. I wrote it to X.
Don Jr. visited Greenland with President Trump's staff, including Sergio Go, incoming White House director of presidential personnel affairs, and James Blair, incoming chief of staff for legislative, political, and communications affairs.
The visit was purely for his own purposes, with the sole purpose of filming material for a podcast, an acquaintance told the Post before the trip.
He was seen touring the capital Nuuk and speaking about the island's history.
Greenland has attracted global attention from Russia and China due to its strategic location in the Arctic Circle and rich supply of minerals. It is the world's largest island, and if President Trump were to purchase the land, it would be the largest land purchase in U.S. history, surpassing the Louisiana Purchase.
