Trump taps businessman John Phelan for Navy secretary

President-elect Donald Trump has announced that he will nominate businessman John Phelan to be the next Secretary of the Navy.

“John will be a great asset to our Navy service members and a steadfast leader who will advance my America First vision,” President Trump wrote. his true social platform Tuesday. “He will prioritize the business of the U.S. Navy above all else.”

Phelan founded Rugger Management LLC, a private investment firm based in Florida.

President-elect Donald Trump announced his selection to Truth Social on November 26, 2024.

He is a co-founder of MSD Capital, the private investment firm of Michael Dell, CEO of Dell Technologies.

“John's intelligence and leadership are unparalleled. John has an MBA from Harvard Business School and is a truly talented person,” Trump wrote. “His incredible knowledge and experience will improve the lives of the brave Americans who serve our country. I look forward to working with him.”

If confirmed by the Senate, Phelan would succeed Carlos del Toro as Navy secretary.

Del Toro is a Cuban-American entrepreneur and the second Hispanic American to serve as Secretary of the Navy.
