Trump tells DC mayor she must clean homeless encampments in the city

President Trump told Washington, D.C. on Wednesday that Mayor Muriel Bowser must clean up the city's homeless camps.

“We have informed the mayor of Washington, D.C. that she must clean all the unsightly homeless encampments in the city. The president said in a post A true society.

“If she can't do that, we will be forced to do it for her! Washington, DC must be clean and safe! We are once again proud of our great capital,” he added. “Thank you to Mayor Bowser for your efforts on behalf of the citizens of our country. Hopefully, you will be successful!”

In December, Bowser said she and Trump had a “great meeting” on a social platform X post.

“Today, President Trump and I held a great meeting to discuss our common priorities for the second term of President.” said in a statement. “President Trump and I want Washington, DC to be the best and most beautiful city in the world, and we hope that the capital reflects the strength of our nation.”

The president and the country's chief of the nation have historically been on and off-limits, with Trump mentioning that Bowser is incompetent following her withdrawal from George Floyd's 2020 protests in Washington and federal law enforcement.

A statement was issued Tuesday by Bowser, implying that Washington could potentially paint Black Life Matter Plaza near the White House.

“The murals inspired millions of people and helped our city during such a painful time, but now we can't afford to be distracted by the pointless council interference,” Bowser said in X.

Comment from the mayor was that Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.), who introduced measures to curb funding from Washington, had been introduced if the Plaza's name had not been changed to “Liberty Plaza.”

Last month, Trump said the “governance” of the country's capital should be acquired by the federal government.

“I think we should govern the District of Columbia,” Trump told reporters at the time. “I think we should do it strongly, do it in law and order, and make it completely perfect.”

Hill reached out to the government in Washington, DC for comments.
