Trump’s Warning to House Republicans
In a closed-door meeting on Tuesday, President Trump expressed to House Republicans that he was “not with Medicaid” as he sought to rally support for his “big beautiful bill.”
Members of Congress confirmed Trump’s comments, indicating that he was trying to persuade those focused on finances to prioritize key campaign promises, such as extending the 2017 tax cuts, as well as issues surrounding overtime hours and Social Security taxes.
Trump urged his supporters not to get bogged down in the debate over raising the $10,000 limit on state and local tax deductions, suggesting that it could be addressed later.
The current iteration of the bill, which is anticipated to be discussed by the House Rules Committee on Wednesday, proposes increasing the deduction cap to $30,000.
