Trump Thanks Gaetz After Withdrawing from AG Consideration

President-elect Donald Trump thanked Matt Gaetz for withdrawing his application for Senate confirmation to become attorney general and wished him well.

“I greatly appreciate Matt Gaetz's recent efforts to seek confirmation to serve as Attorney General,” President Trump wrote on Truth Social. “He was doing very well, but at the same time he had a lot of respect for the regime because he didn't want to get in the way of it.”

“Matt has a great future ahead of him, and I look forward to seeing him do great things,” Trump added.

“Thank you, President Trump!” Gaetz responded with an X.

Gaetz said he would not seek confirmation because it would “unreasonably impede the important work of the Trump-Vance transition,” writing on X:

I had a great meeting with the senators yesterday. We are grateful for their thoughtful feedback and the incredible support of so many people. Although momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation unfairly hindered the important work of the Trump-Vance transition. There is no time to waste on unnecessarily prolonged Washington brawls. Therefore, I am withdrawing my name from consideration for attorney general. President Trump's Justice Department must be staffed and ready from day one. I remain committed to making sure Donald J. Trump is the most successful president in history. I will forever be honored that President Trump nominated me to lead the Department of Justice, and I am confident that he will save America.

President Trump nominated Gaetz to be attorney general last week in an effort to clean up the bureaucracy.

“Matt will end weaponized government, secure our borders, dismantle criminal organizations, and restore the American people's badly shattered faith and trust in the Department of Justice,” Trump said in a statement. Ta.
