Trump to fortify borders with 10,000 troops, deportation for illegal crossers

Welcome to President Trump's stronghold America.

In just three days, the commander-in-chief dramatically increased border security, deploying 10,000 U.S. troops and planning to immediately arrest and deport illegal border crossers.

The sweeping changes currently underway are aimed at making it easier for U.S. law enforcement to stop illegal immigrants from entering the country and deport those already in the country.

Arrests targeting hundreds of illegal immigrants with criminal records began Tuesday in sanctuary cities across the country, with the Justice Department vowing to crack down on sanctuary jurisdictions that obstruct immigration enforcement.

This rapid change in enforcement stands in stark contrast to the previous administration's open borders policy, which allowed nearly 8 million immigrants to enter the country illegally in just four years.

U.S. officials announced Wednesday that the Pentagon will begin sending up to 1,500 active-duty troops to the Mexico border, joining the roughly 2,200 National Guard and Reserve troops already deployed.

President Trump is currently considering plans to send up to 10,000 troops to the border as part of his orders to the Pentagon to “close the border” and stop “mass illegal immigration.” The Washington Post reported.

President Trump also fired the head of the U.S. Coast Guard, the first woman to hold the position, citing “loss of trust.”

He then ordered the Coast Guard to begin a surge of resources to migrant-prone areas on the high seas, including around Cuba and Haiti.

Coast Guard cutters and aircraft will also increase patrols around U.S. territories including Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, the agency said.

Further focus will be on the maritime borders between the United States and the Bahamas and Mexico.

President Trump also ordered Customs and Border Protection agents to stop releasing illegal immigrants with court dates and instead to detain them until they can be deported.

This effectively puts an end to the Biden administration's so-called “catch-and-release” policy. Under this policy, immigrants caught sneaking would be given a court date and released on an honor system.

The Washington Post also reported, citing a Border Patrol briefing, that President Trump is preparing to order that all asylum seekers be denied entry to the United States. The document cites the risk of “epidemics” in the countries they pass through as a legal justification for expelling them.

President Trump also significantly eased restrictions on how ICE conducts deportation raids and lifted bans on operating in courthouses, churches and other locations where illegal immigrants were previously protected from immigration authorities.

Rumors of an impending Trump administration crackdown and deportation raids quickly spread to strongholds of illegal immigration.

Chicago's bustling shopping district, known colloquially as the “Mexico of the Midwest,” has already seen foot traffic down 50%, sidewalks along the two miles of shops and restaurants empty, and stores empty. It remains closed.

Residents say the sudden exodus stems from fears that future crackdowns could lead to people here being illegally arrested and deported.
