President Trump Files $10 Billion Lawsuit Against BBC
On January 6, President Donald Trump revealed plans to initiate a $10 billion lawsuit against the BBC. He alleges that the network edited his remarks to influence the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
Additionally, Trump announced he would speak to the nation live from the White House on Wednesday evening, as he shared on social media. The address is set for 9 p.m. ET, although he hasn’t disclosed the speech’s subject matter.
In his message, Trump expressed anticipation, stating, “My fellow Americans, I will address the nation tomorrow night at 9 p.m. ET live from the White House, and I look forward to seeing you all then. This has been a great year for our country, and the best is yet to come!” His last formal address occurred in November, following an incident involving two National Guard soldiers in Washington, D.C.
Recently, the Trump administration has been highlighting its economic strategies as the year draws to a close. In particular, Trump has been vocal about tariff policies, promising that payments to Americans would arise from tariff revenue. He mentioned, “We’ve received hundreds of millions of dollars in tariffs. We’re going to issue a dividend probably by the middle of next year, but probably a little later than that,” indicating that dividends could be introduced by mid-2026.
Trump first presented the idea of utilizing tariff income to distribute $2,000 payments in early November, suggesting that remaining funds would assist in addressing the national debt.
However, considering the national debt exceeds $38 trillion, the customs revenue is marginal compared to what’s needed. With tariff revenue on the rise, this proposal becomes crucial, especially while the legality of Trump’s trade measures is under review by the Supreme Court.
Since announcing the “Emancipation Day” tariffs back in April, tariff revenue has increased dramatically—rising from $23.9 billion in May to $29 billion in July. The total customs revenue reached $215.2 billion for the fiscal year ending September 30.
