Trump to host tele-rallies for Jack Ciattarelli and Winsome Earle-Sears on the eve of the election

Trump’s Last-Minute Push in New Jersey and Virginia Elections

In Newark, New Jersey, President Trump aims to be a prominent force for Republican candidates in the upcoming off-year elections in New Jersey and Virginia. He has scheduled a conference call on Monday night to support two Republican gubernatorial candidates.

Trump has officially endorsed Jack Ciattarelli, the Republican candidate in New Jersey, and even held a campaign call for him last month. However, he hasn’t endorsed Winsome Earl Sears, the Lieutenant Governor of Virginia yet.

This late campaign effort follows former President Barack Obama holding large in-person rallies for Democratic candidates like New Jersey’s Rep. Mikie Sherrill and former Virginia Rep. Abigail Spanberger over the weekend.

Trump questioned why voters would choose candidates like Sherrill and Spanberger, characterizing their views as extreme. He highlighted issues like high crime rates and soaring energy prices, urging voters to instead choose Republicans for significant cuts in energy costs and taxes.

Both Ciattarelli and Earl Sears are trailing in their races, with New Jersey being more competitive in these traditionally blue states.

Republicans are hoping to replicate the unexpected victory of Glenn Youngkin in Virginia in 2021, when he defeated Democrat Terry McAuliffe. Ciattarelli also ran a surprisingly close race against incumbent Governor Phil Murphy in New Jersey.

During his rallies, Obama portrayed the elections as a way to measure the popularity of his successor, Trump.

Trump has consistently attacked Democratic candidates, labeling them as left-wing extremists. In a phone discussion last month, he criticized Sherrill, calling her “fake and corrupt” and suggesting that her name gives off an innocent vibe that belies her energy policies, which he argues would lead to even higher costs for New Jersey residents.

Despite Trump’s support, Ciattarelli has expressed a desire to rely more on his own campaign efforts rather than outside assistance. He stated that winning elections relies on the candidates themselves going out and earning votes, regardless of any endorsements or outside influence.
