Former President Trump is due to meet with top business leaders at a Business Roundtable discussion in Washington DC later this month.
Trump will take part in a moderated debate at the BRT’s quarterly conference on June 13, his campaign announced Wednesday.
The BRT, a lobbying group for business leaders, is comprised of more than 200 CEOs of major U.S. companies. The BRT’s chairman is Joshua Bolten, former Chief of Staff to President George W. Bush, and its board of directors includes Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins, JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, and General Motors CEO Mary Barra.
The BRT said it had invited both Trump and Biden, and the former president has accepted, but Biden will be in Italy for the G7 summit, with White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients expected to attend in his place.
It is “standard practice” for the BRT to invite presumptive candidates from both major parties to its June meetings, and in 2020 Biden was invited as a candidate, BRT spokesman Michael Steele said.
“I look forward to discussing policy issues with former President Trump next week and hope that President Biden will join me again in the future,” Steele said.
The Trump campaign said he would discuss “how to restore prosperity to the American economy” and touted his readiness to once again build “the strongest economy in the world.”
