Trump to nominate Mehmet Oz for CMS administrator

President-elect Trump announced Tuesday that he will nominate TV personality and physician Mehmet Oz to run the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Mr. Oz ran unsuccessfully for Pennsylvania's Senate in 2022 and has been an ally of Mr. Trump ever since.

In a statement, President Trump referenced a slogan espoused by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., his nominee to lead the Department of Health and Human Services. There may not be a doctor.” .

President Trump said, “Dr. Oz will be a leader in encouraging disease prevention so we can get the best results in the world for every dollar we spend on health care in this great country. “It will reduce waste and fraud in many areas.” This is an expensive government agency that accounts for one-third of our country's medical expenses and one-quarter of the entire national budget. ”

Like Kennedy, Oz has no experience running a large bureaucracy. CMS operates Medicare, Medicaid, the Children's Health Insurance Program, and the federal government's Healthcare.gov ObamaCare exchange.

Medicaid covers approximately 80 million low-income people in all 50 states and DC.
