Trump to Meet Congressional Leaders Ahead of Government Shutdown

President Donald Trump is set to meet with the “top four Congressional leaders” at the White House on Monday, as the government faces a shutdown next week, according to reports.

Andrew Deciderio, a senior Congressional reporter from Punchbowl News, stated that this gathering will include the key Congressional figures. He mentioned this via a post on X, referencing “multiple sources familiar with the situation.”

On Tuesday, Trump indicated in a True Social post that he would not hold meetings with Democratic minority leaders.

His decision was based on what he described as “indifferent and ridiculous demands” from the “minority extremist left Democrats.”

Trump elaborated that these radical demands from the Democrats, which he believes are to keep the nation thriving, wouldn’t likely lead to a productive conversation. He expressed concern about their threats to shut down the government unless they can spend over a trillion dollars on new expenditures, including on issues like illegal immigration and taxpayer-funded surgeries.

This announcement followed a letter from Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer and House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries, urging Trump to meet face-to-face while also holding Republicans accountable for the funding dispute.

Olivia Rondeau from Breitbart News reported that senior White House officials are not planning to pass the version of the spending measure to negotiate with the Democrats.

As Congress prepares to leave town this week, lawmakers face a significant challenge ahead of their return on Monday. If a continuing resolution (CR) isn’t passed to fund the government, a shutdown is expected to commence on Wednesday, October 1st.

In related news, Bradley Jaye, the political editor at Breitbart News, noted that the House approved a spending bill by a narrow margin of 217-213, aimed at preventing a government shutdown for an additional seven weeks. However, it appears Senate Democrats have not favored this bill passed by the House.
