Trump tops Biden by 8 points in Georgia poll

Former President Trump has an 8-point lead over President Biden among registered voters in Georgia, according to a new poll.

About 50% of moderates said they supported Mr. Biden, compared to 26.4% who supported Mr. Trump and 10.2% who supported another candidate. Among independents, Biden leads with 38.4% support, followed by Trump with 27.7%, and an additional 9.4% say they support another candidate.

Mr. Biden and Mr. Trump received equal support from their respective political parties and from self-described liberals and conservatives, respectively.

According to the survey, Mr. Trump has the support of 82.5% of Republicans, while Mr. Biden has the support of more than 84% of Democrats. Biden also received the support of 74.4% of liberals, while the former president received 75% of conservatives.

The poll was released as Trump held a commanding lead over his opponent in Monday's Iowa caucuses, the first nominating contest in the Republican primary. The AJC poll was conducted by the University of Georgia's School of Public and International Affairs between January 3 and January 11 among 1,007 registered voters in the state. The margin of error is 3.1 percentage points.
