Actor John Legoizamo said on Friday that President Donald Trump has turned the federal government into a “white-only club” and is acting against the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) program.
Partial transcripts as follows:
Joy Behar: According to you, Dei is what you're saying, expressing hard work, excellence, imagination.
John Legoizamo: That's right.
Behar: Tell us that your response to Trump's executive orders will end all DEI orders, policies and programs in the federal government.
Leguizamo: That's awful. That is, they're removing the plaque of black and Latino heroes and female heroes. So, what kind of action is that? It's like the only white club. We were here for 500, 400 years, so Die was supposed to be providing us with black and Latino equity. You know, we were protected from going to work, the best places you know, churches and parks. This has given us the opportunity to undo 500 years of oppression, to give us fairness and to reach the same level as everyone else. Yes, I think Americans want inclusion. I think Americans want diversity. They grew up with Latino, black and Asians and we know that there is value. They are neighbors, they are in love with us, do you know? We are lovely people, we are very sexy.
Behar: White people are in control, but now that others are doing it, they don't like it.
Sunny Hostin: Sounds like oppression for those who haven't experienced it.
Leguizamo: That's right. Some white people. I don't think it's all white.
Behar: Of course, it's not.
Leguizamo: Yeah, but some white people don't want that diversity. So he has to demonize Dei. They have to make us feel like we're lifting our legs and we don't deserve it, but all the black and Latin people I know are in positions of power.
