Trump: U.S. will not strike Iran before the elections

Trump Rules Out Military Action Against Iran Before Elections

On October 8, 2026, President Donald Trump announced via Truth Social that he will not initiate military strikes against Iran before the upcoming midterm elections on November 3.

He highlighted ongoing “productive discussions” aimed at promoting stability in the region, particularly concerning the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. This statement came as a response to speculations that his administration might be considering military action to sway voters ahead of the Congressional races.

“We are having productive discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Trump stated, detailing the current state of the country. “I want to make it clear to everybody that, while Iran is in very bad condition, both Economically and Militarily, and while the Blockade will remain in full force and effect, with Oil flowing in Record Numbers of Barrels through the Hormuz Strait (22 Million Barrels, last night alone, with not one barrel coming from, or going to, Iran!), we will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections to be held in the United States on November 3,” he continued. “IRAN WILL NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON!”

This announcement follows reports indicating that the administration was possibly preparing for military strikes before the elections. According to U.S. officials, the Pentagon had directed U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) to finalize preparations for resuming operations in Iran.
