President Donald Trump announced the latest generation of US Air Force fighter jets, which have been developed for over five years, in his oval office on Friday.
Trump said the sixth generation fighter jet will be called the F-47 as the Secretary of Defense stands next to him in the Resolute Desk.
“In my direction, the US Air Force is moving forward with the world's first sixth generation fighter jet. Number 6 … There's nothing in the world. It's known as the F-47. The general chose the numbers. It's a beautiful number,” Trump said. “From speed to maneuverability to what you need for the payload, there wasn't even something close to that.”
Trump said the Air Force has awarded Boeing the F-47 contract.
“The F-47 will become the most advanced, most capable and deadly aircraft ever built.”
“The name of this program is the next generation of air rule, and the President will have your leadership, your clarity, America will have the future, future, air rule. … Now we have the F-47.
Trump said he can't say how much the F-47 costs, as the price can give certain features.
“The F-47 will become the most advanced, most capable and deadly aircraft ever built. The experimental version of the plane has been secretly flying for almost five years, and I am sure it will overwhelm the capabilities of other countries in large numbers,” he added.
During the announcement there was a poster board with a rendering of the F-47 next to the cards, but it was in the shadows. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino provided another rendition of the X, which shows a clearer picture of Jet.
