Trump up by 3 points in Virginia: Survey

A new poll finds former President Trump leading President Biden by three points in Virginia, a state Biden won handily in 2020.

The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Wilder poll showed Trump’s approval rating at 39 percent and Biden’s at 36 percent, according to a press release obtained by The Hill. Biden’s approval rating has dropped by six percentage points since the last poll in December, while Trump’s approval rating remained unchanged.

The poll showed that while the difference between Biden and Trump is within the poll’s margin of error, more people in the state are backing Trump: 9% of Virginians said they would vote for independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., 2% for Jill Stein and 1% for Cornel West.

Three-quarters of Democrats surveyed said they would vote for Biden, while 82% of Republicans said they would back Trump, and 6% of respondents from both parties said they would support Kennedy.

The poll also found that 27 percent of independents said they would vote for Kennedy.

The poll also found that support for Biden has declined among black residents in the state since December: 46% of black Virginians said they would vote for Biden, down 21 points from 67% who said so in the last poll.

The Washington Post This was reported for the first time in a public opinion poll.

The poll was conducted among 809 Virginia adults from June 24 to July 3 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.8 percentage points.

Biden won Virginia by 10 percentage points over Trump in the 2020 election, making Virginia a must-win state for the president this term. The new VCU poll comes after a New York Times/Siena College poll conducted July 9-12 showed Biden leading Trump by 10 percentage points. Only 3 items Virginia.
