Walmart to Reduce Prices This Summer

Walmart is set to lower its prices this summer, a decision linked to a request from President Donald Trump’s administration.

On Monday, the retailer announced a price reduction on various items, telling customers that they could expect savings on groceries, household goods, outdoor products, toys, apparel, and more.

A spokesperson for Walmart indicated that these new prices took effect last week.

President Trump claimed that the price cuts came at his administration’s request to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States.

“Great news! We’ve been informed that Walmart, one of America’s largest and smartest retailers, will be drastically reducing prices at the request of our administration as we celebrate our nation’s great 250th anniversary. Happy Birthday!” the president shared on Truth Social.

He added, “Walmart will reduce the price of a pound of ground beef by almost 15%. This is a huge deal for millions of Americans who shop wisely at Walmart, a truly patriotic company that loves America.”

The company’s statement didn’t mention Trump by name, but it detailed some of the reductions, which include $0.80 off per pound of ground beef, over $5 off a 2.25-pound bag of cherries, and several dollars off a 24-pack of soft drinks.

Julie Barber, Walmart’s executive vice president and chief merchant, said, “Customers count on Walmart to deliver the value they need every day, and summer is no different. This summer, we’re making even stronger investments in price, implementing thousands of rollbacks across the products our customers buy most, including beef, fresh produce and beverages, grills, pools, toys, and summer fashion apparel.”

Earlier this year, Walmart noted it was raising prices on some products due to increased tariffs.

Meanwhile, President Trump has blamed the Biden administration for rising prices, claiming it has led to the “worst inflation crisis in history.”

“My administration is lowering prices. Joe Biden incompetently cultivated the worst inflation crisis in history. A disaster with multiple failures,” Trump stated. He went on to say that the price of oil and gas, along with other essentials, are falling, attributing these changes to his leadership.

He concluded, “Walmart is stepping up in big ways, and other retailers should follow. Together, we will make America stronger than ever.”
