Trump will be honored with named roads in Florida and throughout the country, joining other presidents.

The road leading to Mar-a-Lago in Florida might soon bear the name of President Donald Trump. This initiative is part of a broader trend among lawmakers to honor the current President.

This week, Palm Beach County Commissioners unanimously agreed to rename South Boulevard to “President Donald J. Trump Boulevard,” as reported by the Associated Press. This road is vital as it serves as the main route to Trump’s residence in Palm Beach.

It’s the very route his convoy uses when arriving and departing not just from Mar-a-Lago, but also from Palm Beach International Airport. Supporters often gather along South Boulevard to welcome him during his trips from Washington.

This wouldn’t be the first time a street in Palm Beach County has honored a Republican president. In the early 1990s, a road in Delray Beach, about 20 miles from Mar-a-Lago, was renamed George Bush Boulevard, in honor of former President George H.W. Bush.

Interestingly, former Democrat President Barack Obama has two roads named after him in Palm Beach County. In 2015, Riviera Beach renamed a stretch as the Barack Obama Highway, following a similar renaming in Pahokey City, which is west of Palm Beach County.

According to the Federal Highways Administration, there’s no comprehensive list of federal roads named for presidents. However, a 1993 report by the US Census Bureau indicates that George Washington tops the list of presidents with roads named after him.

Following Washington is Abraham Lincoln, with Andrew Jackson not too far behind. Then there’s a mix of roads named for both Andrew Johnson and Lyndon B. Johnson. This curious overlap happens quite a bit in the naming of streets.

Other notable presidents with roads named after them include Thomas Jefferson, Woodrow Wilson, and James Madison. Of course, the more recent presidents like John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, and Barack Obama also have streets named for them scattered across major cities.

Reagan has a notable presence with the Parkway, Expressway, and Turnpike named after him, showing how the influence of a president can stretch far beyond their term. Obama, on the other hand, also has several roads named after him across various states.

Meanwhile, around 20 miles of highway in Oklahoma was renamed in Trump’s honor back in 2021, and states like Arizona and Kentucky are mulling over similar ideas. Additionally, there’s already a street named after Trump in Hialea, Florida, which is close to Miami.

For a road renaming to proceed in Florida, local governments must approve it first. South Boulevard runs through both West Palm Beach and Palm Beach, meaning both municipalities will need to weigh in on the proposal.
