Trump’s Stance on Tariffs Amidst Musk Feud
President Donald Trump is navigating tensions with Elon Musk, who has raised concerns regarding his role in tariffs. However, Trump remains “committed to and engaged with his trade agenda,” as highlighted by Breitbart News’ Washington Director Matthew Boyle during a BBC appearance. Boyle suggested that other global leaders might take inspiration from British leader Keir Starmer’s collaboration with Trump on trade matters.
When questioned about his position in the Trump-Musk conflict, Boyle pointed out that he believes Musk is on the “truth” side of the issue. He mentioned, “President Trump, as an elected official, has a mandate that Musk does not,” referring to Musk’s lack of electoral authority.
Boyle recognized Musk’s contributions to the conservative movement during his brief time as a government advisor, noting ongoing challenges he faced related to “trade and immigration.” While some support Musk’s claims regarding his ties to Jeffrey Epstein, Boyle emphasized the real focus should be on Musk’s comments about tariffs.
“Elon expressed his intent to challenge Trump’s tariffs. President Trump is dedicated to his trade strategy and aims to foster business relationships with as many countries as possible,” Boyle explained.
He mentioned having discussions with the Greek Prime Minister in April and expressed optimism that both the European Union and the US would be able to reach an advantageous agreement.
“The President accents this point. Musk’s aversion to tariffs presents a fundamental conflict with Trump’s core issues—trade and immigration,” Boyle noted.
He shared insights from his meeting with British Ambassador Peter Mandelson, noting that these discussions have helped transcend internal issues to focus on the long-standing relationship between the US and the UK.
“I really believe that President Trump couldn’t have picked a better first major trade deal than with Britain this year. They are currently working on the final details and are very focused,” he remarked, suggesting that other world leaders should take note of this approach.
Boyle praised UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer for his effective collaboration with Trump, implying that his methods could serve as a model for other leaders. “Looking ahead to the G7, I think we’ll see many leaders drawing lessons from how Starmer is working with Trump,” he added.
