Trump Open to Reconciling with Musk Following Recent Feud
In a recent podcast interview, President Donald Trump expressed a willingness to reconcile with Elon Musk after Musk’s criticism of Trump’s significant spending bill. “I was really surprised that it happened,” Trump remarked, suggesting that Musk might regret his backlash.
As the founder and CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, Musk has been tasked under Trump’s administration with making substantial budget cuts—around $2 trillion from the federal budget. He announced on May 28 that he would step away from his role at X, previously Twitter.
The relationship between Trump and Musk soured after Musk publicly condemned Trump’s spending bill on June 3, labeling it as a “huge, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill” that he found disgraceful.
Following their disagreement, Musk took to social media to share barbed comments, even insinuating Trump had connections to Jeffrey Epstein.
Trump’s spending plan is largely intended to extend tax breaks and boost employment from 2017, as well as provide additional funding for border security and defense. It passed the House and is currently under consideration in the Senate.
Expressing disappointment in Musk, Trump mentioned he is “open to fixing the fence.” When asked about the possibility of rekindling their alliance, he remarked, “I think I can, but we have to straighten the country.” He emphasized his focus on elevating the nation, feeling optimistic about achieving that goal.
During the episode of “Pod Force One,” hosted by journalist Miranda Devine, Trump spoke candidly about these issues. Devine’s podcast features in-depth discussions with influential figures in Washington.
Regarding Musk’s recent tone change, he admitted in a post on X that he regretted some of his recent comments aimed at Trump, acknowledging they were excessive.
In reflection, Trump described the bill as “very good,” asserting that it has the potential to significantly benefit the country. Later on, he also commented that Musk’s apology was “very nice.”
