James Carville, a longtime Democratic strategist, was furious that former President Donald Trump became president-elect, telling podcast listeners that his victory was “depressing” and “disgusting.”
Mr. Carville, who first gained attention as chief strategist during former President Bill Clinton's successful 1992 presidential campaign, offered his dramatic thoughts in an interview Thursday. episode of Government office:
“I'm 80 years old and have no idea what this world is like, and I have to get over the fact that I live in a country with extreme bigots who are the most narrow-minded and secular human beings. “Just imagine…” Carville said before thinking about what went wrong for Democrats.
“And I don't know what percentage of this defeat is because we didn't buy into the message of change or because we held something out too long. There was some flaw in our strategy or presentation. “But at the end of the day, there are still a lot of people who voted for this. ”
Tuesday's result President Trump received 295 votes, beating Vice President Kamala Harris' 226 votes, with Trump-leaning states of Arizona and Nevada still being counted.
Trump won millions of popular votes, new york times According to the tally, Ms. Harris received 72,757,217 votes (50.9%), to Ms. Harris's 68,103,050 votes (47.6%).
Carville went on to complain about incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) defeating Rep. Colin Allred (D-Texas).
“And everything that the people of Texas knew about Ted Cruz, and what was so hurtful, was that Colin Allred is the definition of a truly great human being. So I just want to reevaluate. “We're going to have to do that,” the former Clinton adviser said.
“I'm sure you can think of something that would make you feel better again, but right now, it's hard today. I'll be honest with you. And the hardest thing is, when you look around this country, there are tens of millions of people who are addicted to this shit. That's what I fell into, it's really depressing, but I'm going to get out of it,” Carville added.
Carville went on to say it was “disgusting” that Trump won the popular vote, then brought up Adolf Hitler.
It is no exaggeration to say that there were many criminals, charlatans, fraudsters, traitors and scumbags. All of that has happened before. But I'm not — we've never done it remotely — and the people who are accepting and supporting this — it's just disgusting. But this guy got 50 percent, right? They can argue that Hitler could not have been 33 years old. Yeah, it's scary that we've gotten to this point, and by the way, the unemployment rate is 4 percent. Okay, I mean, I'm sorry.
The veteran Democratic strategist added that he is mentally “in a very dark tunnel.”
On Wednesday he listed The defeat was due to President Joe Biden's “late” withdrawal from the race and Harris' inability to distance herself from the administration.
“We didn't have any process because Mr. Biden stayed so late,” Carville said. “This all sat unused.” [talent] Sitting on the sidelines. ”
“It would have been much better if there had been some kind of open process,” he added. “It could have been worse, but it could have been better.”
