Donald Trump’s legal battle against the Iowa polling firm J. Ann Selzer and the Des Moines Register is set to continue in Iowa state court, following a recent court decision favoring him.
According to reports:
On Friday, President Donald Trump celebrated a legal win in his lawsuit against the Iowa pollsters J. Ann Selzer and the Des Moines Register. An appeals court agreed that a previous decision by a lower court had overstepped, allowing the case to be transferred to Iowa state court.
Trump’s legal team had previously accused the defendants of “brazen election interference,” especially after recent Iowa polls indicated he was behind Democrat Kamala Harris. After filing in May to have the case moved back to state court, Trump’s initial request was denied by a federal judge. However, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit later overturned that decision.
The Eighth Circuit issued a firm ruling, instructing that the case should be treated as dismissed “without prejudice,” enabling Trump to refile it.
Trump is suing the Des Moines Register and J. Ann Selzer for publishing a pre-election poll that showed Kamala Harris ahead of him by 47% to 44% in Iowa.
In the actual election, Trump secured Iowa with 56% of the votes, compared to Harris’s 43%.
Reports have further detailed:
President Trump has taken legal action against the Des Moines Register and polling firm J. Ann Selzer for releasing a poll just days before the 2024 election that indicated Vice President Kamala Harris was leading in Iowa. He claims this poll constitutes “fraud and election interference.”
The complaint suggests that the poll, showing Harris ahead among likely Iowa voters, was intended to foster a misleading narrative about her chances just before the election.
Trump’s team argues that the Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll was both inaccurate and a calculated attempt to support Democratic efforts.
