The Trump administration announced on Wednesday that it will cut funding for 66 international organizations deemed “contrary to U.S. interests.” Nearly half of these organizations are linked to the United Nations.
Among the most significant is the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which serves as the foundation for major global climate agreements.
The UNFCCC, established in 1992, aims to bring nations together to combat climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to its impacts.
Wopke Hoekstra, the European Union’s climate chief, expressed concern, stating that the UNFCCC is essential for global climate action and collaboration.
He remarked on LinkedIn, “The decision by the world’s largest economy and second largest emitter is regrettable.”
“We will continue supporting international climate research and remain dedicated to climate cooperation,” he added.
President Trump, focusing his domestic policy on fossil fuels, has voiced skepticism about human-caused global warming, referring to it as a “hoax.”

The administration did not send a representative to the annual United Nations Climate Change Summit in Brazil.
Now, Trump aims to ensure that taxpayer funds are not allocated to the United Nations and its globalist affiliates. AFP has only disclosed some of the organizations impacted.
The memorandum also mandates the U.S. withdrawal from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and other climate-related agencies, including the International Renewable Energy Agency, the United Nations Oceans, and the United Nations Water.
Similar to his previous term, Trump withdrew the U.S. from UNESCO, which had been reinstated under the Biden administration.
He also pulled the U.S. out of the World Health Organization and reduced foreign aid.
California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized the decision, calling it a move by an “ignorant president” who is undermining America’s global leadership and creating opportunities for competitors like China.
