Trump Sends a Message to Obama: He “Puts a Huge Burden on Me”
President Donald Trump recently addressed the Supreme Court’s ruling regarding presidential immunity, specifically in connection with his claims against former President Barack Obama related to the false conspiracy narrative. He expressed that this situation imposes a significant strain on him.
In other news, Trump is gearing up for a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer amid ongoing trade discussions between the US and the UK. As he arrives in Scotland, he indicated plans to discuss beneficial trade agreements. “We met with the Prime Minister tonight,” he shared with reporters before heading out. “We’re going to talk about the trade contracts we’ve done and perhaps make improvements.”
“We want to address aspects that serve both nations well,” he added, hinting at potential adjustments. There’s also a celebratory note since the UK has sought business accords with the US for years, with this being a breakthrough.
Trump Heads to Scotland to Discuss Golf, Politics, and Trade
Trump will spend several days in Scotland and is set to visit the famed Turnberry and Aberdeen golf courses during his trip.
Earlier this week, both governments announced a significant trade agreement, marking a historical step in their negotiations, especially after previous significant tariffs were established in early April by Trump.
Visit to the Federal Reserve
During his visit to the Federal Reserve, Trump provided an update on his discussions with Chairman Jerome Powell. Accompanied by administration officials, he toured the facilities, which had recently undergone renovations. While there were initial tensions regarding the costs, Trump later reassured that the meeting was productive. He also denied any drastic change in leadership regarding Powell.
Historically, Trump has had a rocky relationship with Powell, frequently criticizing him and expressing frustration over his handling of interest rates. “Well, I’d like him to lower interest rates, but other than that, what can I tell you?” he remarked.
Signing the Retirement Package
On Thursday, Trump signed a law involving a substantial $9 billion retirement package, also impacting foreign aid and public broadcasting funds. This package cuts nearly $8 billion previously allocated for initiatives through USAID and pulls more than $1 billion from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which supports NPR and PBS.
Reactions to Congress stripping funds from these public broadcasters have been vigorous, particularly from the Liberal Party, which has voiced strong opposition.
