Trump's border numbers from July keep falling to new all-time lows

Trump Administration’s Border Security Efforts Continue

The Trump administration remains focused on securing the Southern Border of the United States. Recently, U.S. Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks shared updates on social media regarding the notably low number of border apprehensions this summer.

In the first 27 days of July, about 4,000 migrants were arrested, which averages to under 150 daily apprehensions. “Apprehensions remain at historic lows, with 4,022 recorded so far in July,” Banks noted on X, highlighting the unyielding efforts of agents maintaining a strong presence at the border.

If this trend persists until the end of July, Border Patrol may see a new record-low, with projections suggesting only 4,600 arrests for the month. This is nearly 1,500 fewer than June’s reported 6,072 encounters, a month that was noted for having the most secure border in U.S. history.

Banks attributes this downturn to enhanced enforcement strategies. He stated, “Our enforcement posture is effective—the border is fortified, and deterrence is in motion,” in a recent update.

In addition to the numbers, significant policy shifts have shaped current border security measures. The administration has fully abandoned the “catch and release” practice implemented during Biden’s tenure. For the second month in a row, no immigrants caught crossing illegally were allowed entry into the U.S. following their arrests, a stark contrast to earlier policies that released over half of apprehended migrants.

This reduction in apprehensions gains additional weight when considering issues like drug trafficking. Following his earlier post, Banks offered further details about efforts to curb the influx of dangerous substances. Notably, law enforcement seized 11 lbs of cocaine during a traffic stop in Orange, California.

“So far this month, USBP and law enforcement partners have seized over 1,100 lbs. of cocaine- valued at over $29 MILLION,” Banks reported, indicating that July wasn’t even over yet.
