President-elect Trump will be inaugurated on January 20th in the Rotunda of the Capitol in the presence of members of Congress, world leaders, and allies. The decision to move the event inside the Capitol walls comes as snowstorms and frigid temperatures are expected to blanket Washington over the weekend.
Temperatures are expected to rise to 22 degrees Fahrenheit during the swearing-in of Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance on Monday. At the 2009 inauguration ceremony, President Obama took the oath of office outdoors in 28 degrees Celsius due to a cold front.
President Ronald Reagan became the last commander-in-chief to be sworn in indoors at the start of his second term 40 years ago. A variety of celebrities and business moguls will be in attendance, including performers Carrie Underwood, Lee Greenwood, Christopher Macchio and Village People.
Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk are also expected to attend. All living former presidents have been allowed to attend, but former First Lady Michelle Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) declined invitations.
President Trump's rearranged ceremony will be private but available to watch online. NewsNation will broadcast the event on its cable channel. Website and streaming platforms.
Also offers C-Span live broadcast without comment NBC News.
