Connor Smith’s Journey After a Tragic Accident
After a devastating traffic incident, Connor Smith has placed his future in music in God’s hands. In June 2025, Smith was driving the truck that struck and killed 77-year-old Dorothy Dobbins in Nashville. Despite efforts to save her at Vanderbilt Medical Center, she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. Six months later, Smith revealed in an interview on Upload with Brooke Taylor that he believes his musical path will be guided by divine direction.
“People often ask, ‘When will you return to social media or release new music?'” he shared, adding, “It’s all about when God tells me to do it.”
Reflecting on the aftermath of the tragic event, he described the experience as overwhelming—”like a tornado tearing through your home.” He mentioned that he turned off his phone and put it away for four weeks, a choice that led him to seek solace in his faith. “There’s nothing I can fix here. It’s up to God to decide what comes next,” Smith explained.
Shifting to a spiritual focus, he said, “Okay, God, you take the reins on this next chapter.” He acknowledged that any decision regarding his return to music is not solely his to make. “It’s like, I don’t want to pick the color of the walls in this new house you’re building. You decide how this will all be structured, and I’ll accompany you in the process,” he said, reflecting on the deep impact of the accident.
Despite all that’s transpired, Smith feels a sense of tranquility as he anticipates his return to music. He mentioned feeling “very calm” about it, although he’s still waiting for that divine sign. “I’ve found peace in the abundance of the Spirit of the Lord,” he noted.
It’s worth mentioning that Smith was not impaired during the accident. He received citations for misdemeanor offenses related to the tragic situation, categorized as a traffic complication rather than a criminal one.
