TSA will introduce a security lane for military personnel

Changes to TSA Airport Security Process

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has announced new measures for airport security that are set to roll out at specific locations starting Tuesday. This includes the introduction of dedicated security lanes for active military personnel and discounts on TSA Precheck fees for members of the uniformed services.

These additional security lanes will be located at airports close to military bases. airports like San Antonio, Texas; Anchorage, Alaska; Atlanta, Georgia; Austin, Texas; Colorado Springs, Colorado; El Paso, Texas; Fayetteville, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; San Diego, California; and Seattle will all see the changes.

A report from the Department of Defense indicates there are around 1.13 million active service members. Gold Star families, who have lost loved ones in service, will be exempt from TSA Precheck registration fees, which includes various providers like PreCheck, Clear, Idemia, and Telos. Moreover, active Department of Defense service members will receive a $25 reimbursement on their TSA Precheck fees. Gender is not a factor here—both male and female personnel, as well as private DOD staff, can already access free TSA Precheck.

Diving deeper into what’s being referred to as the “Honor, Travel With Susase” initiative, it aims to affirm TSA’s commitment to supporting the military community, especially during the busy July 4th weekend. TSA Administrator Ha Nguyen McNeill stated, “We strive to honor those who serve and their families. By simplifying access to services and collaborating with TSA Precheck providers, we make traveling easier for them.” This initiative will formally launch in San Antonio, Texas.

It’s noteworthy that the TSA operates under the Department of Homeland Security and was established in 2001 following the September 11th attacks.
