Tagovailoa on Hill’s Comments
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is actively trying to mend his relationship with star receiver Tyreek Hill. This follows Hill’s declaration of “I’m out” after the Dolphins failed to make the playoffs for the 2024 season.
During a recent training camp session, Tagovailoa addressed Hill’s remarks, conveying the importance of the relationship. “When you say something like that, you don’t just come back with ‘my bad.’ You have to take that relationship seriously. He’s working on himself,” Tagovailoa noted.
Hill’s comments emerged after the Dolphins’ loss to the New York Jets in week 18, where they were defeated 32-20. For Hill, this marked the first time he missed the postseason, and his reaction hinted at uncertainty regarding his future with the team.
He expressed, “You have to do what’s best for me and my family. Whether it’s here or anywhere else, I have to open the door for myself. It was great to play here, but at the end of the day, I have to prioritize my career.”
Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, reassured fans that his client is committed to the Dolphins, calling Hill’s comments “very authentic.” According to Rosenhaus, Hill’s desire is to win, stating, “It’s not enough for him to simply not make the playoffs. He’s passionate about it, and I believe he is dedicated to this team.”
In January, Hill had mentioned that “frustration” was a factor influencing his previous statements. Despite having two years remaining on his lucrative three-year, $90 million contract, he hasn’t been traded this offseason and entered training camp with a renewed focus.
Last season was tough for Hill, marking his worst statistical performance since 2019 with 959 yards on 81 receptions and six touchdowns. However, he had a standout 2023 season, leading the league in both receiving yards (1,799) and touchdowns (13) across 16 games.
As the Dolphins gear up for the 2025 season, health will be a crucial factor, particularly for Tagovailoa, who missed significant time last year due to concussions.
