Miami Dolphins Secure First Win with Tua Tagovailoa’s Performance
The game was just wrapping up, but Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa made sure to express his gratitude to God while addressing viewers across the nation on Monday night. The Dolphins triumphed over the New York Jets with a score of 27-21, largely thanks to Tagovailoa’s efforts. He completed 17 out of 25 passes, racking up 177 yards and two touchdowns, marking Miami’s (1-3) first victory of the season. In an interview after the game aired on ESPN, Tagovailoa talked about his faith and showed concern for his injured teammate, Tyreek Hill.
“First and foremost, all glory belongs to God, my Lord and Savior; Jesus Christ,” he said. “I just want to thank Him for this victory and for keeping us safe. My thoughts are with all those who got hurt tonight, especially my buddy, Tyreek.”
Tagovailoa emphasized that it was a collective team effort. “That’s all I can say about this. I fought hard until the end,” he mentioned.
“I just wanted to give praise to the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” he added.
However, Hill’s injury overshadowed the win somewhat. Reports from ESPN indicated that the celebrated wide receiver was taken off the field on a cart during the third quarter, later confirming a season-ending knee injury. Tagovailoa shared a moment with Hill on the field, with cameras capturing their smiles amid a tough situation.
“He was in good spirits,” said Tagovailoa. “That’s just his personality.”
While Tagovailoa is among the most vocal Christian athletes in the NFL, his team’s performance has not mirrored his earlier successes at Alabama. In 2022, he led the league in passer ratings, threw for the most yards in 2023, and maintained a top completion rate in 2024. Unfortunately, injuries have frequently derailed his progress. Still, he doesn’t shy away from discussing his beliefs.
In a 2023 interview, he mentioned that the Bible guided him through navigating the NFL’s concussion protocols. He and his wife read it each morning, which he feels strengthens both their relationship and their connection with God.
“It really helps strengthen our relationship not only with each other but with our Heavenly Father,” he noted. “One of our favorite scriptures is 1 Corinthians 2:9. It reminds us that we can’t even imagine all that God has in store for us, and we treasure that passage.”
