Tua Tagovailoa Faces Criticism After Praising Josh Allen
This week, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa stirred some controversy by lauding Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen ahead of their upcoming game, admitting he feels he “can’t do half of what he’s doing.” At a press conference, Tagovailoa spoke highly of Allen, describing him as having an NFL MVP skill set.
“He’s first class. If it’s not his arm, it’s his legs. The guy can literally do what he wants,” Tagovailoa expressed to reporters. He noted that he struggles to match Allen’s athleticism and throwing strength, emphasizing, “I can’t do half of what he does when it comes to running the ball.”
However, Tagovailoa’s candid remarks did not sit well with all commentators. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith criticized him during “First Take,” suggesting the Dolphins front office might be frustrated with such comparisons. “If I were the front office of the Miami Dolphins, I would be upset,” Smith remarked.
Former NFL tight end Luke Wilson, a Super Bowl champion, weighed in on the situation. He believed Tagovailoa’s comments could reflect a lack of confidence, especially considering the Dolphins’ current challenges. “He was the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Tua should have a lot of weapons at his disposal,” Wilson commented. He added that Tagovailoa’s acknowledgment of Allen’s skills, coming at a tough time for Miami, complicates matters further.
Four-time Super Bowl champion Rob Gronkowski echoed similar sentiments, suggesting that such praise could indicate Tagovailoa’s insecurities. “You don’t go to those extremes of praise unless your confidence is shaken,” Gronkowski opined during an appearance on “Up & Adams Show.”
The Dolphins are set to face the Bills tonight at 8:15 PM ET.
