Tuberville’s Super Bowl Plans Uncertain Amid Halftime Show Controversy
Last year, Alabama Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville made an appearance at the Super Bowl, but this time around, it seems he might skip it. The former Auburn football coach hinted that he wouldn’t tune in, particularly due to the halftime show featuring Bad Bunny.
In a recent interview with Newsmax, Tuberville remarked, “Unfortunately, we call this the Wake Bowl, but we’re becoming more and more woke.” While he didn’t confirm he would avoid the game entirely, he made it clear that Bad Bunny’s performance was not appealing to him.
He stated, “And Bad Bunny or Bad Rabbit will be there at halftime. I’m going to watch the (Turning Point USA) halftime show. It’s just a shame it’s come this far.”
This apparent protest came shortly after former President Donald Trump announced he wouldn’t attend either, citing the game at Levi’s Stadium as “too far away.” Trump mentioned, “I would, I have done so. Great hands at the Super Bowl. They like me.” He added criticism towards Bad Bunny’s involvement, calling the decision “crazy” and blaming promoters for the entertainment choices.
Tuberville wasn’t alone in his sentiments. Recently, Bad Bunny made headlines for his decision to do a residency show in Puerto Rico, opting not to schedule U.S. dates to avoid potential issues with ICE agents.
Before the kickoff, Green Day is scheduled to perform, but frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has also criticized Trump in the past. The band has previously changed parts of their songs to reflect their political stance against him.
Trump has expressed his discontent with the halftime performers, labeling the choice as “terrible” and one that only brings “hatred.”
The Super Bowl is set for February 8th, with the New England Patriots facing off against the Seattle Seahawks.
