Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) argued that President Biden is running for re-election so he can stay out of prison.
Tuberville appeared on Newsmax on Thursday while attending the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) and questioned whether Biden was likely to be the Democratic nominee in the next election.
“I don’t know what they’re going to do,” the Alabama senator said, adding that former President Trump “will win anyway.”
Tuberville predicted that Democrats will try to replace Biden around the time of the Democratic National Convention in August and “send someone in to give President Trump an advantage.”
“But Joe Biden, you can’t beat him. To be honest, he’s just trying to stay there so he can’t get out of prison,” Tuberville continued in the conversation. Highlighted by Mediaite.
The Alabama senator claimed that “about three months ago” he thought Biden was “probably going to win,” but now he sees the president’s decline and is concerned. “We need some leadership in this country,” he said, pointing to a video of Biden “limping along, staring at the ground.”
At 81, Biden is facing mounting criticism and questions about his ability to serve a second term as he becomes the oldest president in the Oval Office.
In another recent interview, Tuberville suggested that an impeachment inquiry into Biden is likely to fail at this point, saying, “It all depends on the House.”
House Republicans approved an impeachment inquiry into Biden in December, but Democrats will continue the investigation after federal authorities found that a key Republican source had made false allegations about the president’s finances. They claim there is not enough evidence.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) dismissed the charges against the FBI informant for filing false claims, saying his arrest “doesn’t change the fundamental facts” of the case against Biden. No,” he said.
The investigation includes a detailed examination of the Biden family’s personal and business finances.
Tuberville, a supporter of Trump, the current Republican front-runner, claims Biden is campaigning to keep him out of prison, but others have said the same about Trump. .
Former Republican candidate Will Hurd claimed last year that he was running for a third time to avoid prison after Trump faced 91 criminal charges in four states and the federal government.
