President Trump's solid supporter, Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), said Russia and the United States would ultimately decide the fate of the war in Ukraine, and that Volodymyr Zelensky, the war-torn democratic president, was “not even a game.”
“Zelensky is going to play hardball, what do you know? He's not even in the game,” Tuberville said in an interview with Newsmax.
“That would be [Russian President Vladimir] “President Putin, President Trump and those on our side will make this decision for the future of Ukraine,” he continued.
Tuberville criticized Zelensky in an interview, suggesting that “for some reason, he hopes that this war will continue.”
He said Zelensky was wrong to assume that the US would continue to provide military aid to his country.
Tuberville's proposal that Ukraine wants to continue the war reflects sentiment promoted by Trump, who falsely accused Zelensky of starting a war with Russia.
The interview comes after an explosive oval office meeting between Zelensky, Trump and Vice President Vance on Friday. At the meeting, Zelensky publicly forced Putin's credibility on Trump, rebuking American leaders for being “disrespectful” and fully grateful for the US support.
Trump told Zelensky that his country had no “cards” in negotiations with Russia and that he was gambling with World War II.
