Tulsi Gabbard Resigns as Director of National Intelligence
In a recent announcement, Tulsi Gabbard has decided to resign from her role as Director of National Intelligence (DNI) to support her husband, who is battling a rare form of bone cancer. This news was first reported by a digital news outlet.
Gabbard conveyed her decision during a meeting with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office. Her final day in office will be June 30. In her resignation letter, Gabbard expressed gratitude for the opportunity she was given, stating, “I am deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in me and for the chance to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence over the past year and a half.”
She noted the challenges her husband, Abraham, faces in the upcoming weeks and emphasized her need to step back from public life during this difficult period. “Abraham has been my rock throughout our marriage, and I feel I must be by his side as he fights this battle,” she shared.
Gabbard reflected on her tenure, mentioning that she has worked hard to bring transparency and integrity to the intelligence community but recognized there is still much to be done. She assured a smooth transition in leadership to avoid any disruption.
In response to her resignation, President Trump acknowledged her contributions and expressed understanding of her decision, stating, “We will miss her.” He affirmed his belief in her husband’s recovery and mentioned that Aaron Lucas, the Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence, would serve as Acting DNI.
Throughout her time as DNI, Gabbard led several significant initiatives, such as declassifying over 500,000 pages of documents, including those related to the Trump-Russia investigation and historical events. She also established the first Weaponization Task Force to address concerns related to government overreach.
Gabbard’s departure marks a notable shift in the DNI leadership, leaving her legacy of transparency and reform as a point of discussion.
